![]() They just help existing sun damage from becoming darker and help combat the appearance more sun damage by inhibiting the production of melanin. I have a few sun spots I would like to fade- it did take about a month of consistent use to start seeing results, but I am indeed seeing them fade! And of course unless you’re religious about sunscreen, all the hard work is out the window! Vitamin C doesn’t actively lighten your skin- neither does alpha arbutin. That seems to actually work a bit, and doesn’t irritate me at all. The most effective and gentle combination I’ve found is using 12% ascorbyl glycoside (a stable form of vitamin C, which at least for me is not irritating at all) directly after an acid toner, in combination with alpha arbutin a few nights a week, and the same minus the acid toner most mornings. I believe it’s difficult to find a vitamin C which is effective, stable and non-irritating all at once. However as skin type differs, so shall result differs too, endeavor to perform a patch test prior to commencing product application to test for allergy.
